Beschreibung

Prepare for Paris! At the JuniorJam sponsered by PROMEGA in our beautiful city of Münster, we want to offer you a wide range of opportunities to improve the presentation of your iGEM project for the Grand Jamboree in Paris. Besides scientific talks and a panel discussion, we will give you the opportunity to introduce your project idea in a variety of ways. For example, each participating team will have to design a team booth, prepare a promotion video and will have the opportunity to present their project in front of an audience. Our jury of experts will give you personalized feedback that will help you improve your presentation and tell you what to keep in mind for the Grand Jamboree in October. In addition, there will be casual activities to socialize and connect with different people from the iGEM community.

Check out our agenda!

Requirements:

Please prepare a poster and a promotion video of your project. If you would also like to present your project idea in a 15-minute presentation during our Meetup, please let us know by e-mail .

With the participation fee of 20 € we cover the costs for lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.

Scientific Talk from Dr. Britta Trappmann (Max-Planck-Institut Münster)

"Regulation of angiogenesis by the extracellular matrix – a biomaterials approach"

A major challenge in the field of tissue engineering is the generation of new materials that can support angiogenesis, wherein endothelial cells from existing vasculature invade the surrounding matrix to form new blood vessels. To proceed, material design criteria based on natural tissue characteristics are needed, but currently lacking because we do not know how extracellular matrix (ECM) properties affect angiogenic sprouting and ultimately, blood vessel formation. Due to the complex nature of native ECMs, it is difficult to identify the role of individual matrix properties. Here, we have developed synthetic hydrogels with independently tunable properties, which are integrated into a microfluidic platform that mimics the process of angiogenesis in vitro.
In this talk, I will present our efforts to understand how matrix stiffness, adhesiveness and degradative properties jointly regulate angiogenic sprouting, and importantly, vascular lumen formation.

      Max-Planck-Institut Münster

      Röntgenstraße 20 48149 Münster, Germany

Workshop I: Start-up in the natural sciences – from an idea to a bestseller (Seminar Room I)

You have an idea or you see a problem and you are not yet comfortable with current solutions? Then this is your chance to make more of it! See how you can take the first step and turn your idea into a project! How do I develop an idea into a business model? How to find the right co-founders for my project? There is a lot of support! Where can I find it? Be part of it and meet people who are also passionate about "doing"!

Workshop II: Storytelling - but how? How to put your projects in the right spotlight (Seminar Room II)

A summer full of iGEM ...and in the end, it will only take a few minutes in which we will present the results and experiences of the last few months on stage at the Grand Jamboree in Paris. In order to keep the audience engaged from the first to the last second of your presentation, you can use specific techniques to maintain the tension during your presentation. Here you will learn tools that will simplify storytelling and put your project in the spotlight.

Workshop III: GASB Q'n'A - Ask the iGEM experts (Auditorium)

In this Q'n'A session you get the chance to meet two Steering Committee Members of the German Association for Synthetic Biology (GASB e.V.) sharing their expertise in the iGEM competition. Talk and discuss about how to present yourself as a team on the grand Jamboree and learn what is key for a successful iGEM presentation, poster and appearance in Paris. You get the chance to address your questions to experienced iGEMers who have a history of successful iGEM participation.

"Does it need synthetic biology for a sustainable bioeconomy?"

In the iGEM world, synthetic biology is everything! But how much can it really contribute to a sustainable world? In our panel discussion, we want to discuss with experts from different disciplines the relevance of synthetic biology for the bioeconomy and the associated opportunities and risks that could influence a transformation to a sustainable bioeconomy.
